The metal compound bites harder and lasts noticeably longer than the resin pads, and the finned aluminum backing plate pulls heat out of the caliper so the lever stays where you put it on a long descent instead of drifting to the bar.

These are the pads for riders doing real descending, hauling loads, or riding through a wet Toronto winter where grit eats resin pads for breakfast. Worth knowing: metal pads are a bit noisier when cold or wet, and they wear rotors faster than resin. If your bike is mostly flat city riding, resin is the quieter choice.
